Hello there,
I'm looking for industrial music I haven't heard before, as I got bored with the music I have now. I don't know a lot of industrial music, so you can knock yourself out here ;)
Think NIN, Panzer AG, 16 volt.
The heavier the oldschool sound the better.
Does anyone want to help me out?

Re: Advise?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 4:03 AMSo hard to advise without knowing what you know already.
Why don't you write us a list of all the things you are familiar with.
There are 25 plus years of the genre already which is a lot of territory to cover.
In terms of old school, I've been going through an Einsturzende Neubaten phase lately.
They have a wonderful DVD documentary of their career out that you can rent or purchase.
Very inspiriing to see how they got their hands 'dirty' with using all kinds of truly
industrial and environmental sounds. So much of industrial music has been done with
a samplers, synthesizers and guitars............using actual industrial metal objects and power tools
in performance is a real turnon for me.
I just recently saw Survival Research live (they build huge machines that then destory each other in huge spectacle).
Wow!!!!! -

Mon, March 26, 2007 - 10:53 AMGood lord, a search that started with The Mad Professor, took me to the true depth of my madness, and I was confronted with a connection to Blink 182, and Incubus
This means only one thing, I must commit Sapuku with a heated spork

Re: Advice?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 11:53 AMwww.lala.com is also a good resource if you're willing to trade or get rid of some albums. I've gotten a lot of stuff from there.
Um, I recently picked up an older magazine about the origins of the Industrial genre. I'll grab the title when I get home this evening. It's one of those iconic early underground publications about alternative subcultures that I'm totally blanking on the name of. But it had interviews with Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and others. -

Mon, March 26, 2007 - 12:07 PMTape delay is a pretty cool book documenting many of the early figures in the scene

Re: Advise?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 6:01 PMYou may also want to explore/start using www.last.fm
It tracks what you and others listen to, creates lists and suggests stuff you might like, based off the listen habits of yourself and others. -

Re: Advise?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 6:47 PMI 2nd that, just join www.last.fm and listen to their <a href="Industrial" title="www.last.fm/tag/industrial">Industrial">www.last.fm/tag/industrial">Industrial tag radio station</a>. Re: Advise?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 3:36 PMsince i don't know where you're at, i'll start with the classics... and as far as i'm concerned, the only decent industrial made (all the new stuff sounds like nu metal... ugghhh!). skinny puppy, skinny puppy, skinny puppy, revolting cocks, pigface, my life with the thrill kill kult. for lighter more ebm-ish, dancey stuff... cabaret voltaire, meat beat manifesto. oh, and how 'bout download and coil. did i mention skinny puppy? if you're looking for very classic stuff, einsterzende neubaten, psychic tv. and if you're feeling experimental, throbbing gristle. and the best modern "industrial" comes in the form of experimental electro... check out teen anal terrorist on myspace. they're amazing ;-) (shameless self-promotion). -
-
Re: Advise?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 3:56 PMoh... and to expand on the modern experimental electro thing that you may like if you like industrial... richard devine for sure. aphex twin, venetian snares, doormouse, some of autechre's stuff if you like glitchy... draft 7.0, ep7 (albums by autechre). and if you like digital hardcore ala atari teenage riot and ec8or, check out hearts of darknesses. i guess when it comes to modern music i lean toward "post-industrial" rather than the people who are putting out the same shit trying to sound like ministry or nin. -
-
Re: Advise?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 4:21 PMsaying that it sounds like NIN or Ministry is being too kind, and is a horrible insult to ministry. Most New Industrial sounds like what happens when you Neuter an Emo Kid, and feed him shit loads of HGH -

Re: Advise?
Tue, May 8, 2007 - 5:12 PMOoohh C'mon man.... it's not thaaat bad.
At least not as bad as the last Wumpscut release, that is really disappointing.
I hated Mythmaker at first but I guess now I'm kinda getting my ears used to eat.
But of course, it will never top Bites or Rabies -

Re: Advise?
Tue, May 8, 2007 - 5:48 PM"Ooohh C'mon man.... it's not thaaat bad. "
I think that view was mainly derived from the fact that Otto von Schirach worked on it
-

Re: Advise?
Tue, May 8, 2007 - 6:05 PMLol! That's a good point but even with Otto the album could've been better.
Did I say that I'd get my ears to eat? Wtf was I thinking?
